1. Maintain Healthy Soil
The durian tree is intolerant of waterlogging. When the soil around the tree remains consistently wet, its shallow and delicate roots can easily rot, weakening the tree. Waterlogged soil fills the air space with water, preventing oxygen from reaching the roots and eventually killing them.
This hinders the roots’ ability to absorb nutrients, causing yellow leaves and poor growth, even when nutrients are present in the soil. During the fruit’s development, excessive water absorption causes the durians to become small, cracked, or watery inside, as the pulp expands too quickly.
