Durian may look “hard” on the outside, but its flesh is highly delicate and valuable. Today, durian continues to grow in popularity across Southeast Asia, bringing considerable income to many growers. However, in Malaysia’s hot and humid rainforest climate, disease can easily become a long-term threat. Among these diseases, durian fruit rot can seriously affect the appearance and value of durian fruits, making it an issue that farmers must include in disease management.

Caused by Fungal Infection

Durian fruit rot disease is caused by Phytophthora palmivora, a fungal pathogen. Once a durian tree is infected, the entire plant can be affected, starting from the roots and later spreading to the branches, leaves, and fruits.

It can be described as a disease that spreads along the whole plant. If not treated in time, it may lead to plant death and even spread to other trees. Therefore, prevention is extremely important.

Management Solution

Adamil is a natural systemic bio-based plant disease control product. It helps strengthen the plant’s defence mechanism to achieve better suppression against fungal pathogens.

For durian fruit rot, Adamil is recommended for foliar application. Mix 1,000ml with 1,000 litres of water and spray evenly around the durian tree canopy. It is also recommended to pair it with Atom adjuvant to improve spreading and penetration effects.

Apply once every two weeks. It can also be rotated with Dimethomorph 50WP.

Farmers’ Feedback After Use

Mr. Chia from Manchis shared his experience in managing durian diseases. He said that when he noticed signs such as poor durian tree growth or drying branches, especially during more severe disease periods, he used Adamil once a month as a foliar spray.

It can also be used together with insecticides to achieve preventive disease management results.
