Insect Growth Regulator Preventing Pests from Moulting and Laying Eggs

During the early stage of chilli planting, whiteflies may easily break out. In the later stage, thrips become the main pest to control. Both are sucking pests. According to farmers’ feedback, leafhoppers may also be found on vegetables. In addition, aphids are one of the pests that are difficult to ignore when planting fruit vegetables and cucurbit crops.

Suppressing Pest Population Growth

“Teck Lai, I must use Advansia’s Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC.”

This was shared by Mr. Wong from Simpang Renggam. He is my father’s supplier. When Advansia’s products were not yet familiar to everyone, his first impression of Advansia’s Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC was that it is an insect growth regulator. As the name suggests, it can regulate insect growth. Insects have an exoskeleton, which is commonly known as the outer skeleton. On the outer layer, there is a layer of cuticle that ensures the hardness of the exoskeleton and protects the safety of the internal organs. Because of this, the skin, organs, and skeleton can grow together.

Why is this so?

Insects and larvae must go through moulting before they can grow into pupae or adults and then begin laying eggs.

During growth, larvae usually hide in concealed places before moulting. The cuticle is a hard outer layer. After moulting, the original outer skeleton becomes soft. It then expands freely and re-synthesises with the cuticle before completing development and growth.

Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC works like a type of “infertility agent” during the continuous growth of insect larvae. It prevents insects from reaching the stage where they can pupate. From the young larval stage, it prevents them from becoming mature larvae or adults.

This also prevents female adults from laying eggs for reproduction, so the total pest population will not continue to increase.

Spray Once a Week

“What should we do if adult insects or eggs are present and the spray does not seem to reach the hidden parts?”

The effect of Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC is not immediate. As mentioned earlier, it controls pest population numbers and prevents the total number from increasing. The pests are unable to grow and cannot lay eggs, so their numbers gradually decrease.

In other words, once the product is sprayed onto the insect body, the insect will not be able to grow into the next stage after several moulting processes.

“Only by spraying several times will we see this effect?”

“Generally, spraying once a week is enough. The dosage of Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC is 5ml mixed with 10 litres of water.”

From Mr. Wong’s feedback and the effects seen in the field, whiteflies may break out during the early stage of chilli planting, while thrips are usually controlled in the later stage. Both are sucking pests. In addition, leafhoppers may also be seen on vegetables. Aphids are also one of the difficult pests to control in fruit vegetables and cucurbit crops.

Green leafhoppers, whiteflies, thrips, and aphids are the four main sucking pests found in fruit vegetables and cucurbit crops. Pyriproxyfen 10.8EC can provide effective control against them.
